This is Street Style Fashion Worldwide ! Even though the weather is warming up, there’s no reason leather needs to take a seasonal hiatus from your wardrobe rotation. Upon first thought, we were skeptical of this trend — the mere idea of wearing leather in the sweltering heat and humidity made us sweat. If the thought of wearing leather in the height of summer also gets you hot under the collar, think again. The runways played host to a range of clever options in lightweight, tissue-thin hides proving that leather is no longer reserved solely for winter. We get that sporting leather in the summer is much like wearing a bikini in a blizzard, but hear us out! When done right, this slick, supple fabric can have you looking and feeling cool under the sun. Perforated treatments, laser-cut finishes, cropped cuts and fine skins give way to the summer sensibility of sporting warm weather leather for sultry style no matter the temperature.

The fourth is one of the best summer holidays. Outdoor fun, fireworks that are reminiscent of so many sequins lighting up the sky, food and friends — what’s not to get excited about? Well, maybe those cheesy, flag-themed garments, sunglasses, bags, shoes, bathing suits, hats, lawn chairs, etc. One legit American flag swaying in the breeze, holding court over your festivities is enough.

But that begs the question for some: how do you show up to your party referentially appropriate without looking like a boob? It’s easy, if you incorporate the type of event (beach party, yacht club, lawn game tourney) into the mood of your look and then add color (you know the ones we mean; red, white and blue). Feel free to be playful if the occasion calls for it with a star-shaped bag or striped flag-like piece. Just be sure to keep it chic.

Showing off your stars and stripes on Independence Day doesn’t have to mean donning a cheesy Uncle Sam top hat or Born in the USA T-shirt. There are ways to work the spirit of the holiday into your outfit without looking like you belong in a Fourth of July parade. Try pieces that incorporate the traditional colors in more muted tones or an unexpected print and people will be oohing and aahing over your ensemble as much as the fireworks. If you want a red, white and blue outfit that doesn’t take the all-American theme too literally, check out our 10 non-kitschy patriotic pieces.
